Overview: This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the Databricks free trial. This free version of Databricks is a perfect starting point for individuals and organizations eager to dive into the world of big data and machine learning. With the Databricks free trial, you’ll experience a powerful cloud-based platform for data engineering and collaborative data science without any cost or time limitations. 

During this session, we will explore the key features of the Databricks free trial, including Unity Catalog, ETL, training ML models, Experiments and MLflow. We will ingest and refine data, organizing our ETL pipeline with multi-hop architecture to derive business-level aggregates. We’ll also touch upon the core functionalities for developing machine learning applications, such as MLflow.   

This live, hands-on lab will teach you how to: 

• Access a cluster manager and a notebook environment, hosted on AWS. No cloud accounts with computer/storage resources are required. 
• Create 15GB clusters and notebooks to prototype simple applications. 
• Access external data from S3 & other sources. 
• Train Machine Learning models with popular Python libraries. 
• Log key parameters and metrics for machine learning models, using MLflow. 
• Track experiments and tune hyperparameters with MLflow. 
• Access the Experiments UI to view past MLflow runs.
